Exemplary cooperation in challenging Aluminum head forming project for GRW in South Africa
Currently we are working on a project for the production of Aluminum heads for GRW. A leading manufacturer of bulk-transport carriers/ trucks. The cooperation is quite unique. A project which only was possible by introduction by a good friend and expert in the forming industry. The challenge is producing aluminum heads with a central weld-seam by STIR welding. The company is using a lot of Stir welding in their production. The company is assisted in stir-welding by the Nelson Mandela University. The introduction lead to studying a report of the weld-seam and the observation of an S shaped weld- seam. In order to avoid the latter and the pressing of aluminum, the press was upgraded with required options specified our company and performed by the supplier of the press. GRW has a great team with good operators. The upgrade will ensure to press high quality products. The actual pressing, tooling and welding parameters require fine-tuning to ensure the perfect shape and quality after which flanging and edge-cutting will be finishing touch. We are grateful to work with company and university. We are certain that cooperation with the Nelson Mandela University will contribute to the future of welding worldwide and can also assist in the goals of our company in respect of forming.
